Program of patronage

The orphanage employs 19 people, the majority of whom are professionals assisting the children with their daily education and development.

This may at first seem a disproportionate number of employees for the amount of children; however this is very necessary due to the fact that there are several handicapped children in the orphanage who require intensive care around the clock. The attention needed to give these children the same opportunities they would receive in other parts of the world, including therapy and re-education, is unfortunately time consuming and therefore expensive.

In May 2011, Ollanta Humala was elected as the new President. He has taken measures to try and kick start the Peruvian economy and one of these measures was to increase minimum wage by 12% from the start of August 2011 with a similar increase planned for January 2012. This is great for a large proportion of the population; however the wage bill for the orphanage comprises 60% of all expenditure. New funds must be found to try and maintain the level of staff and care currently received by the children.

For this reason we have decided to introduce a patronage program which will enable us in the short term to continue providing the current level of care to the children.

We propose 3 types of patronage: A monthly payment of either $50 or $100 throughout the year or a one off annual payment of $600. The donor of these funds will receive regular correspondence informing them of exactly how their donations are being used.
